Sangiovese

Italy’s most widely planted vine variety, Sangiovese is filled with romance and lore. Famously grown in Tuscany, the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, and home of such notable wines as Brunello di Montalcino, Montepulciano, Sassicaia and Tignanello. David first fell in love with this grape while traveling abroad. Its varietal characteristics were different and unique and unlike anything he had ever tasted. He was so enchanted with its beauty that he was inspired to grow it himself and ‘see what it would do’. He planted one acre in the heart of his vineyard and has ever since been delighted with the results. Our California version of this Tuscan wine is rich, ripe and fruity. The high elevation and plentiful sunlight on Pritchard Hill allow these grapes to vine-ripen and deliver a full-bodied, complex wine that is bursting with juicy, sweet cherry flavors, aromatic floral notes, deep color, and a long, elegant finish. Delizioso! What’s not to love?

TASTING NOTES:

A dark ruby red color offers aromas of baked plum, wild strawberries, tamarind with hints of brown sugar and toasted cherry wood. The palate is broad and inviting with rich cherry flavors and fine-grained tannins. It finishes with notes of toasted almond and vanilla spice that linger on the finish.
